In the area of the oldest settlement of the island, Peparithos, the Venetian Castle rises on the site of an ancient castle of the classical period, which was reconstructed by the Venetians in the 13th century and is visible from every point of Chora. Today only the ruins of its walls remain.<\/div>\n
You can reach it by climbing the stairs from Panagitsa tou Pyrgos, which is located at the edge of the port. It is a wonderful route that combines “the end after the beginning”, as apart from the archaeological interest, you will also enjoy the spectacular view.<\/div>\n

Perhaps the most famous attraction of Skopelos is the picturesque chapel of St. John in Kastri. It is located in the north of the island and is 30 kilometers from Skopelos Town, a distance that can be covered in about 40 to 45 minutes. The chapel, which was built in the 19th century, became widely known from its appearance in the famous film “Mamma Mia”. To visit it you will have to climb a rock with 110 steps, but the view you will find there will surely reward you. Sentoukia tombs<\/b><\/h3> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

On Mount Karya northwest of Skopelos and above the beautiful Monastery of Agios Efstathios with its excellent view, in the location of Sedoukia, there are four exceptional ancient tombs of the Roman or early Christian period that have the characteristic of being carved! In general, Sedoukia has a lot of stories and legends with hidden treasures!<\/div>\n
Two of the tombs are parallel to each other and are separated by a third that is unfinished and another that is parallel to the three and is two meters away. The three completed tombs have 2.5m covers of monolithic slabs and were found inverted (a sign of dragging).<\/div>\n
To visit this interesting mystical site, you will initially follow by car or better by motorbike, a marked dirt road to Karya where you will find a spring, which is said to have the best water on the island. Then, you will continue on foot along a narrow path to the carved tombs at Sedukia.<\/div>\n
The experience of hiking in an idyllic setting in lush green nature is completed when you reach the area of Sedukia, which is known to be located at one of the highest topographical points of the island. The Folklore Museum of Skopelos is housed in one of the oldest mansion houses of Chora. The building, built in 1795, was repaired again in 1971 due to the serious damage it had suffered from the 1963 earthquake that hit the island. One of the most important monuments of the ancient city of Peparithos is the Asclepieion, which is located at the “Livadi – Abeliki” site on the southeastern side of Skopelos Bay. The Asclepieion of Skopelos is considered one of the oldest sanctuaries of the god of medicine, Asclepius. The Asclepieion was identified by archaeological excavation, utilizing an inscribed base of an anathema dedicated to Asclepius. Also, amphorae, red Attic vases, parts of statues, clay figurines and coins have been uncovered by the archaeological expeditions. The finds date this sanctuary from the 4th century to the Hellenistic period. Pavlos Nirvana House, Skopelos History Museum, an important newer monument of Magnesia, the Nirvana House in Skopelos, is being revived and will open its gates to the public in the near future.\u00a0\u00a0<\/div>\n
The building has been repaired and converted into an exhibit of the history of the town of Skopelos from antiquity to the present day. The responsibility and supervision of the whole project was undertaken by the Service of Modern Monuments and Technical Works of Thessaly of the Ministry of Culture.\u00a0 This house was the childhood home of the modern Greek writer Pavlos Nirvanas, who came from the island and whose real name was Petros Apostolidis.<\/div>\n

The three completed tombs have 2.5m covers of monolithic slabs and were found inverted (a sign of dragging). To visit this interesting mystical site, you will initially follow by car or better by motorbike, a marked dirt road to Karya where you will find a spring, which is said to have the best water on the island. Then, you will continue on foot along a narrow path to the carved tombs at Sedukia. The experience of hiking in an idyllic setting in lush green nature is completed when you reach the area of Sedukia, which is known to be located at one of the highest topographical points of the island. From there, you can enjoy a magnificent view, distinguishing Alonissos, Euboea, Skiathos and Pelion, while if the atmosphere is clear, you will see Halkidiki and of course Mount Olympus on the horizon.\n\n

Panagitsa of the Pyrgos<\/h3>\n

As the ferry of the line arrives at the port of Chora, you will see the chapel of Panagia tou Pyrgos in the distance. It is an all-white small church located on a small hill next to the sea. The church dates back to the 17th century and the icons inside date back to the 18th and 19th century. Climb up to Panagitsa of Pyrgos, and you will have the opportunity to see one of the most beautiful views on the island of Skopelos towards the Aegean Sea.<\/p>

Folklore Museum of Skopelos<\/h3>\n

The Folklore Museum of Skopelos is housed in one of the oldest mansion houses of Chora. The building, built in 1795, was repaired again in 1971 due to the serious damage it had suffered from the 1963 earthquake that hit the island. In the museum you will get in touch with the rich cultural heritage of the island and the way of life of the traditional families of Skopelos, while you will have the opportunity to see collections of paintings, ceramics, embroidery, knives, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n[gallery ids=\"581\"]\n

ASCLEPIUS OF ANCIENT PERARITHOS<\/h3>\nOne of the most important monuments of the ancient city of Peparithos is the Asclepieion, which is located at the \"Livadi - Abeliki\" site on the southeastern side of Skopelos Bay. The Asclepieion of Skopelos is considered one of the oldest sanctuaries of the god of medicine, Asclepius. The Asclepieion was identified by archaeological excavation, utilizing an inscribed base of an anathema dedicated to Asclepius. Also, amphorae, red Attic vases, parts of statues, clay figurines and coins have been uncovered by the archaeological expeditions. The finds date this sanctuary from the 4th century to the Hellenistic period. In a pavilion recently placed in the Archaeological site of Asclepius, finds are on display for visitors.\n\n\n[gallery ids=\"579\"]\n

HOUSE OF PLAGIARIST PAVEL NIRVANA<\/h3>\nPavlos Nirvana House, Skopelos History Museum, an important newer monument of Magnesia, the Nirvana House in Skopelos, is being revived and will open its gates to the public in the near future.\u00a0\u00a0 The building has been repaired and converted into an exhibit of the history of the town of Skopelos from antiquity to the present day. The responsibility and supervision of the whole project was undertaken by the Service of Modern Monuments and Technical Works of Thessaly of the Ministry of Culture.\u00a0 This house was the childhood home of the modern Greek writer Pavlos Nirvanas, who came from the island and whose real name was Petros Apostolidis.
